Meet Dr Raj Narulla

Dr Raj Narulla is an Australian-born, Australian-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with special interests in fracture (trauma) surgery and shoulder surgery. He is recognised for his thorough, patient-focused approach and his commitment to restoring comfort, confidence and mobility. Originally from Hobart, Tasmania, Raj completed his medical degree at UNSW and a Masters of Surgery at the University of Sydney, before training as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Sydney under the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) training scheme. His goal is simple: to help people return to the life and activities they enjoy.

Raj undertook a Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Fellowship at the prestigious ALPS Surgery Institute in Annecy, France, where he worked with world leaders in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, including Dr Laurent Lafosse and Dr Thibault Lafosse. During this time he refined advanced arthroscopic and nerve-preserving techniques that now guide his surgical philosophy. His approach is precise, methodical and centred on maximising patient safety.

Currently working at Sutherland and St George Hospitals, Raj balances clinical practice with research and teaching as a Conjoint Lecturer at UNSW, where he is completing his PhD in shoulder surgery. He has authored numerous scientific publications and combines high-level clinical evidence with his own ongoing research to give patients the best outcomes possible.
